Jason Herr’s ambiguous works create subtle narratives that evoke both a sense of anxiety and absurdity. Often staging contorted characters in uncanny situations, the artist examines the isolation and loneliness of our contemporary world.
Herr’s work explore dualities through his formal use of skewed perspectives and profusion of details: flatness and depth, looseness and tightness, improvisation and control - treading a fine line between free-flowing outsider art and precise craftsmanship.
By creating oneiric universes obeying their own rules, the artist reveals his inner world while casting a light on the absurdity of our tangible reality. Every character contains elements of the artist but exists in a parallel universe separate from it - ''self-portraits hidden behind a mask'' in the artist's own words.
Jason Herr Graduated with a BFA from The Pennsylvania College of Art and Design in 2015.
